Hair Loss

My mom and I went to another wig shop on Thursday. This shop is cheaper so I was curious to see if they had the wig I liked from the other shop. They didn't have the wig but she could order it and it would be $40 cheaper than the other shop. However, I found the exact same wig online for half price. So I ordered it.

Anyway, while at the shop I tried on some other wigs but I just couldn't find another one I liked. So my mom decided to try on some wigs and she bought one. She has a head full of hair but she thought it would be great not to have to style your hair. She looks wonderful in it and I can't even tell it is a wig. I hope my wig looks that great on me!

I still have a lot of hair but it is starting to thin on top. I think in a few weeks I will be needing a wig. I am still having a difficult time with the fact I am going to lose my hair. This is probably the worst part about the chemo for me. If this is what I have to go through to beat cancer then this is what I have to do!

I saw your name on the hd mailing list and wanted to check out your blog. I'm 22 and was diagnosed on 11-1-04. I feel your pain on the hair issue. After my 2nd chemo mine started falling out, so i decided to shave my head. Well, now I think not such a good idea because it never really all fell out, and its already growing back! I can laugh about it now though. I don't even wear a wig, just scarves. Trust me, you will get over the hair thing more easily than you think. You just get used to it I guess. If I can get used to it, anybody can! I was obsessed with the way I looked, I can't lie I guess I still am. When I found out I was going to have to start chemo, I cried like a 5 year old because I didn't want to lost my hair! I'm really ashamed of doing that now that I look back. I'm just glad it grows back!!! Hang in there.

Hey Stephanie,
Hang in there sweetie! My hair is falling out crazy now too. I'm thinking about shaving it all off (so the wig will fit better). The hair loss for me is the best part of all this. I've been dying my hair for 15 years now. I will finally see what my natural color is. Who knows, I may even get my sister's gorgeous curls when it grows back. There's always another perspective - its how you choose to see it!
With Love,
Heather

Great news about getting the wig at such a discount!! I'm waiting for mine to start coming out -- but I'm getting my wig on Monday to make sure that I'm all set up for when it happens. I'm dreading it, but am also trying to focus on the positive....since I don't have any control over the situation. We just have to do our best in this, since we don't have any choice!
